Inside the Box

Why do our rooms look the way they do? Is it possible to liken most rooms in the western world to a white square box? How is spatiality affected if we think outside of the box and break the mould?

Despite people being so different, most of us live in the same square boxes – boxes where there are expectations related to how we are supposed to behave. In my project I have investigated how additions could be made to the white square box in order to change the experience of the room. Would our activities and how we use our rooms change if we could break spatial patterns? Would it affect our way of living? Would we feel better emotionally if the shape of the room was easier to relate to our bodies?

Inside the Box
